As an interior designer with a passion for exploring new destinations, I’ve had the pleasure of returning to the beautiful Atlantic coast region of Saint Palais Sur Mer and Vaux Sur Mer for several years now. In fact, it’s become a regular annual destination for me, and each time I visit, I discover something new to love about this charming area.

This favourite haunt of Parisians and other city-dwellers boasts an array of stunning holiday homes, each one reflecting the region’s unique character. The architecture in Saint Palais Sur Mer and Vaux Sur Mer is a testament to the area’s rich history and cultural heritage, with a mix of traditional and modern styles that never fails to inspire.

Gastronomic Highlights

The local cuisine is another highlight of the region, with restaurants like Maison Blanche and L’Arrosoir serving up delicious, locally-sourced dishes that showcase the best of the Atlantic coast’s fresh seafood and regional specialties.

Maritime Heritage

The Atlantic coast region is also steeped in maritime history, and one of the most iconic landmarks in the area is the Cordouan Lighthouse. Often referred to as the “Patriarch of Lighthouses,” this magnificent structure was designed by leading Paris architect Louis de Foix and took nearly 27 years to complete, from 1584 to 1611. Today, the lighthouse is maintained by four guardians who work on rotating fortnightly shifts, two at a time.

Pontaillac Beach 

Plage de Pontaillac, with its fine sand and crystal-clear waters, is also a favourite. This stunning beach in Royan, France, is more than just a picturesque destination – it’s steeped in history. The iconic Art Deco-style Palais des Congrès et des Festivals overlooking the beach adds to its charm, evoking memories of glamorous summers past. As I stroll along the shore,

I’ve been visiting for years now and always captivated by the perfect blend of natural beauty and architectural elegance. Whether I’m basking in the sun, swimming, or simply enjoying the vibrant atmosphere, Plage de Pontaillac always feels like a little slice of paradise.
