Revitalising a Sydney Icon: 1960s-Inspired Interior Design
Nestled in the heart of Potts Point, this iconic apartment building on Macleay Street boasts a rich history, having once been the Sheraton Motor Inn and a temporary home to the Beatles during their 1964 Sydney visit. Andrew Loader Design was tasked with transforming the drab, beige-colored hallways into vibrant, inspiring spaces that pay homage to the building’s 1960s heritage.
Designing with a Retro Twist
To revitalise these spaces, we drew inspiration from the 1960s, incorporating iconic design elements with a modern twist. The elevator lobbies now feature 1960s-style timber panelling, painted in a dramatic soft black hue and paired with midnight black timber flooring.
Bold, Uplifting Hallways
The hallways have been transformed with custom-designed, boldly patterned carpets, warm grey walls, and dark charcoal apartment doors. To create the illusion of more spacious hallways, we installed expansive dark mirrors with striking chrome framing. Oversized, raised metallic apartment numbers in matt black add a touch of sophistication.
